The benefits of meditation for anxiety and stress include reducing physical discomfort, putting things into perspective to make better decision and coping with difficult situations. Every individual has different reasons for meditating, from relieving job stress and reducing anxiety of all kind and minimizing physical pain to improve relationships and determining life's direction. No matter what the stress or anxiety, meditation can provide immediate relief. Later, meditation can be used to get to the heart of cause of anxious feelings and make deeper changes.

Meditation used in the treatment of anxiety disorders typically takes the form of mindfulness-based meditation. Mindfulness is one of the best ways to use meditation for stress and anxiety relief. Think of it as giving yourself permission to slow down, connect and take a break from worry. Mindfulness inevitably expands your awareness of other people and enhances your relationships, which tends to relieve anxiety and stress.

Stress management: ways to prevent and relieve stress

"Stress is not always wrong; it can be used in beautiful ways. It is not necessarily negative, but if we think that it is negative, that it is not good and then we create problems. When stress is there use it as creative energy. Effective stress management helps you break the hold stress has on your life, so you can be happier, healthier, and more productive. The ultimate goal is a balanced life, with time for work, relationships, relaxation, and fun—and the resilience to hold up under pressure and meet challenges head on. But stress management is not one-size-fits-all.

Teaching cardiac patients of stress management may be as effective as aerobic exercise in decreasing the long-term risk of further coronary illness, and it may also reduce medical costs, researchers at Duke University Medical Center have found. This stress management program emphasized the physiological effect of stress on cardiovascular disease and gave training in muscle relaxation. It also taught participants to recognize how they created stress in their lives through cognitive distortions, like mistakenly blaming themselves for bad luck.

It is widely acknowledged that meditation is the most powerful stress management tool available today. However not all meditation techniques are made equal. However inbliss’s Active Meditations are different. Inbliss Active Meditation is a modern and revolutionary for stress management. Contrary to all the other meditation techniques, Inbliss Active Meditation does not work by aiming to induce directly a state of relaxation: the approach is to lead you to relaxation as a consequence of extreme tension. This technique begin with an intense physical stage such as breathing, shaking, dancing or humming to help each person throw off some of the tensions and stress they have accumulated. Incidentally this stress management technique gives the body a good physical workout at the same time!  The stages are followed by further stages of relaxation and stillness.

Dynamic meditation is one of the most popular active meditations for stress management. People experience relaxation after just one single session. And the key to make the most out of this powerful method is intensity.  Dynamic Meditation is a 60 minute formatted meditation technique of 5 stages, first of which is fast, deep and chaotic breathing for 10 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of catharsis, 10 minutes of jumping and shouting a mantra “hoo”, 15 minutes of silence, and finally 15 minutes of celebration through dance.

Express, enjoy, relax

With Inbliss’s stress management methods you learn how to enjoy the stress-response as a wonderful mechanism. You have the freedom to express emotions and energy through body movements and vocalizations. And naturally your system switches back to relaxation as a consequence.

Life is expression, express it!

Stress reduction through Inbliss Himalayas mindfulness meditation

With demographic change, the number of elderly people is increasing globally. The ageing process and associated stress diminishes their quality of life. Mindfulness or meditation has been claimed to reduce stress and alleviate suffering.

This beautiful meditation for relaxation is guided by Sindhu, Inbliss Himalayas. Sindhu has over 20 years of experience as an Osho Meditation Facilitator and Therapist. She has worked with people from all over the world and has travelled to over 25 countries for facilitating workshops.

Mindfulness meditation might be a useful approach for anyone especially for the elderly as this is a passive meditation. Inbliss Himalaya’s Mindfulness meditation, in particular, has become more popular in recent years. The practice of mindful meditation involves sitting comfortably, focusing on your breathing, and then bringing your attention to the present without drifting into concerns about the past or future. Many persons who have tried this method have reported dramatic changes in attitudes, beliefs, habits and behaviours. A mindfulness meditation can be an effective health care intervention for english speaking population.

Mindfulness and meditation

As Osho puts it, "When the mind disappears, thoughts disappear. It is not that you become mindless; on the contrary you become mindful. Buddha uses these words “right mindfulness” millions of times. When the mind disappears and thoughts disappear you become mindful. You do things – you move, you work, you eat, you sleep, but you are always mindful. The mind is not there, but mindfulness is there. What is mindfulness? It is awareness. It is perfect awareness."

Osho further adds "You can call it mindfulness, awareness, or you can call it a state of no-mind. The words seem to be contradicting each other, but they are indicative of the same state. Presence of mind means to be in the present, to be spontaneous, to be available to whatsoever is happening right now. To be available to here and now is presence of mind. But the only way to be available to here and now is not to be in the past, not to be in the future.

And mind consists of past and future; mind knows nothing of the present. Mind is always occupied, it is never unoccupied. And whenever the mind is unoccupied, utterly without any thought, just watchful, alert, conscious, there arises a great presence. That presence functions on its own accord. That presence makes your life a life of responses, not of reactions.

Sindhu with her group in minfulness meditation session at Inbliss Himalayas

Ordinary life is of reaction; you react. Reaction means you are reacting to a present situation according to the past. It never fits because life never repeats itself".

Regularly practicing the guided meditations from Inbliss Himalaya guide to meditation helps to gradually develop the ability to be present throughout the day, every day.

In a recent workshop few participants were trained in Inbliss Himalaya’s mindfulness meditation technique for Stress Reduction and Relaxation. Significant reductions were observed in measures of present-moment pain, negative body image, inhibition of activity by pain, symptoms, mood disturbance, and psychological symptomatology, including anxiety and depression. Participants notice a reduction in utilization of medication, energy levels and feelings of self-esteem increased. Improvement appeared to be independent of gender, source of referral, and type of physical or mental issue.
